I storyboarded many climactic action sequences in the third act, often without a script. My assignment was to explore action while moving the story forward as Miles Morales grows into the real Spider-Man.
This pivotal second-act scene originally had a more comedic tone. After reading the rewrite, I storyboarded it from Miles’ point of view, focusing on his desperation as Peter Parker walks away—taking with him Miles’ chance to become the real Spider-Man. Phil Lord loved my emotional take and later added a final comedic beat to lift the scene without undercutting the emotion.
In this deleted scene, Peter Parker hesitates as he is supposed to cheer up Miles Morales, revealing his shortcomings as a mentor. With no scripted direction for the other Spideys in the room, I improvised a visual gag—Spider-Ham bench-pressing while SP//dr spots him, only for Peter to accidentally bump into them. The scene ends on Gwen in close-up, lingering on her concern as Miles sits alone outside.
